About This Call
The Public Art Program of the City of Dallas Office of Arts & Culture requests submissions of qualifications from artists or artist teams to design, fabricate and install public art at two intersections: 1) Lemmon Ave and Shorecrest Dr and 2) Lemmon Ave at Lovers Ln. as part of the Lemmon Ave Streetscape Enhancements Projects.
The Lemmon Ave Streetscape Enhancement project will provide safety and quality of life improvements on Lemmon Avenue in the vicinity of Dallas Love Field, creating a safe, walkable, bicycle and transit friendly corridor. This is the first phase of the larger "Love Field Loop Trail" project. The neighborhoods are treelined, walkable streets with residents who enjoy walking, running, and cycling.
Artwork must be highly visible, require little or no maintenance, be free of safety hazards, and complement the overall theme of "Fresh Modernism." No electricity is available at the sites. The selection panel may select one artist to create artwork for both sites or two artists, one for each location. Up to three artists or artist-teams will be shortlisted and contracted to develop site-specific concept designs. Shortlisted artists will receive a $1,000 stipend to cover costs of site visits, community meetings, site research, concept production, and presentation to the selection panel. Shortlisted artists must submit drawings, digital renderings, or maquettes, along with a draft budget demonstrating all phases can be completed within the $94,000 total budget ($47,000 per site), including design development, final design, fabrication, foundation, installation, completion, and an estimated maintenance plan.
Submission materials required: current professional resume, 6 images of previous projects with similar budgets (including title, date, location, materials, dimensions, budget and commissioning entity), letter of interest, and three professional references. Applicants must be professional artists with a demonstrated record of successful completion of artwork at similar cost and scale. Ineligible: artists currently under contract with the City of Dallas Public Art Program, City of Dallas employees and their spouses, members of the Public Art Committee, consultants under contract for any phase of the projects, undergraduate students, and minors (persons under 18 years old).
