About This Call
The Leigh Weimers Emerging Artists Awards, established by the Rotary Club of San Jose in memory of longtime Mercury News columnist and arts supporter Leigh Weimers, provide unrestricted cash grants to emerging artists. The awards recognize outstanding artists in the visual arts, performing arts, written word, and music who reside in Santa Clara County and have shown extraordinary originality and dedication but have not yet achieved widespread recognition.
Eligibility is restricted to residents of Santa Clara County only. The entry fee is $10.00. Applicants may submit up to 20 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files. Special submission requirements apply for writers: screenplays and scripts require a 5-minute video of a staged or unstaged reading with a brief description and plot summary; novels require a short chapter with a book summary; poems and short stories require 3-5 samples.
The submission deadline is June 30th at 5:00pm with no extensions. Winners are required to attend two mandatory events on October 16, 2019 at the Rotary San Jose Summit Center in downtown San Jose: an Awards Program Rehearsal in the morning and the Awards Program and Luncheon from 11am to 1:30pm. Applicants must create a CaFE account to apply.
