About This Call

Lehigh University invites applications for the Horger Artist in Residence, a residency that brings artists, architects, and designers to campus to work on ambitious public-facing projects that engage with the university, its students, and surrounding community. The program is open to individuals in all disciplines of the visual arts whose practice actively relates to adjoining communities, surroundings, and publics.

The Horger Artist in Residence will spend the spring semester 2021 (January 25 - May 19, 2021) engaging in creative inquiry and research that will lead to a project, exhibition, or series of events to be made publicly accessible in fall semester 2021. During the spring semester, the resident will teach one 4-credit undergraduate studio or seminar course related to their practice, open to all Lehigh undergraduates with instructor permission. The resident will receive $10,000 adjunct compensation for teaching and a $50,000 budget for their residency project. The budget may be divided into project expenses, wages, housing, and travel, and the project must be realized by December 1, 2021. Studio space will be provided in the Department of Art, Architecture and Design's newly remodeled facility on the Lehigh University Mountaintop Campus, with full access to departmental and university resources. Artists pursuing exhibition projects will work with the Lehigh University Art Galleries for curatorial support and exhibition space.

Applicants should hold a terminal degree in their field and have an established record of creative practice. Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching experience and those taking an interdisciplinary approach to pedagogy. Applicants must submit a cover letter outlining the proposed project and course, a curriculum vitae, images of past work and projects, and contact information for three references. Review of applications begins March 2, 2020, and finalists will be invited to campus for a presentation and tour of facilities.
