About This Call
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), in partnership with the Chicago Public Library (CPL), seeks an artist to participate in the Legler Regional Library Artist-in-Residence Program. During a one-year residency, an artist will be given studio space at the Henry E. Legler Library (located at 115 S Pulaski Rd in West Garfield Park) to develop a public art project that utilizes the artist's unique talents to promote greater connectivity between the library, its services, and the needs and aspirations of the local West Garfield Park community.
The Artist-in-Residence will maintain regular onsite and studio hours to make art and engage with staff and visitors, develop and execute a series of programs in the community room that engage visitors in performance, educational, and participatory art-making experiences, and present a final public art project at the end of the residency that becomes part of the library's growing art collection. This opportunity is open to professional artists or artist teams who live or work in the City of Chicago and demonstrate commitment to working with and for the benefit of the public. Artists living and working on the West Side of Chicago, specifically near Legler Regional Library, are highly encouraged to apply.
The Artist-in-Residence will receive a total budget of $50,000, which is all-inclusive of costs associated with the engagement program, activities, and final projects, including a $15,000 stipend paid directly to the artist to support administration of the program. Anticipated residency term is August 2024 through August 2025. Applications must include a one-page letter of interest, six to ten images of past public art projects, an annotated image list, an optional video (no more than two minutes), and a two-page resume or CV. Submission deadline is Sunday, June 2nd, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. CDT. Questions should be directed to [email protected].
