Leftward Bound: A Contemporary Photography Exhibition

The Sebastopol Center for the Arts presents an open call for submissions for the 2025 photography exhibition, Leftward Bound, the first all-photography exhibition at SebArts. The exhibition will run March 20–May 4, 2025, and is juried by Trisha Lagaso Goldberg and Theodore Lau. Leftward Bound coincides with the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival 2025 and explores themes of transformation, resilience, and the power of choice. The exhibition invites submissions that pursue shifts, points of view, or trajectories aimed at difference, open-mindedness, and the unpredictable. Works that are personal, odd, specific, and outside the mainstream are encouraged.

Eligibility is open to artists worldwide. Submissions must be lens-based photography (analog, digital, or alternative process; no AI at this time). Maximum of 3 pieces per artist. Framed work may not exceed 4 feet on the longest side and must include fixtures and be ready to hang. All work must be original photographs taken by the artist and must not have been previously shown in the SebArts Gallery. Work must have been completed in the last 3 years. Entry fee is $35 per entry, with $5 per additional entry. Images must be 5MB or less in JPEG format, with one main image and up to two additional images per piece.

Awards include 1st place $300, 2nd place $200, 3rd place $100, and two $50 coordinator awards. Artists receive 60% of sales prices for work sold during the exhibition. Work must be shipped to SebArts, 282 S. High St, Sebastopol, CA 95472, arriving by Friday, March 14th, 2025, or hand-delivered on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs. Unsold work will be shipped within 15 days after the exhibition closes. Artists will be notified of acceptance by February 4th, 2025. The submission deadline is January 22, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. MST.
