About This Call

The Lane Community College Foundation is seeking site-specific artwork for indoor areas of the new Health and Wellness building located on the main campus in Eugene, Oregon. This opportunity is open only to practicing professional artists over 18 years of age who are Oregon residents and have experience creating large-scale, site-specific works.

Two categories are available. Category #1: One artist will be selected for site-specific wall art in the stairwell near the back lobby. The back stairwell walls are approximately two stories high, with one wall 10 feet wide and another 7.5 feet wide, featuring a tall narrow window. Category #2: One or two artists may be selected for major site-specific art on the main lobby's east wall, which is two stories in height (approximately 12 feet wide and 19 feet tall). The wall features bamboo panels (2 feet 11 inches wide by 3 feet 2 inches tall) and a guard rail 2 feet 4 inches from the wall. Any medium will be considered, but artwork must be durable, require little maintenance, and contain no safety hazards. Artists must submit preliminary design concepts for committee review; finalists will be asked to submit detailed designs before approval.

Total budget for all art in this facility will not exceed $80,000. Submissions must be received online through CaFE by midnight mountain time on March 24, 2011. The Foundation reserves the right to limit submissions to the first 150 applications. Submissions must include an artist's statement (limited to 2000 characters), a written narrative describing the design concept and its relation to holistic health and wellness (limited to 4500 characters), 1-6 digital images with specifications, estimated project price including all costs, a resume highlighting large-scale installation experience, and professional references. Art will be evaluated based on artistic merit, quality of materials, appropriateness for the site, and relevance to the theme of holistic health and wellness. Finalists will be notified approximately April 9-11, 2011, with approximately six weeks to prepare final proposals.
