About This Call
Art in the Park is a fine-art and fine-craft event held in South Park (12th and Massachusetts) on the south end of downtown Lawrence, Kansas on September 19-20, 2026 (Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Sunday 10 am to 5 pm). A Lawrence tradition dating back to 1964, this is the Lawrence Art Guild's premier fundraising event. The 2026 event will be the sixth year as a two-day event with over 20,000 visitors expected. Ten live music groups will perform throughout the weekend, and food vendors will provide a variety of options. All accepted artists are invited to display up to two pieces in the Phoenix Gallery sponsored "Art in the Park Preview Show" located in Downtown Lawrence, with an opening reception during Lawrence's Final Friday gallery walk.
Eligible media include graphics/printmaking, drawing, leather, metal, glass, painting, digital, pastels, photography, mixed media, ceramics, all fiber media, jewelry, sculpture, and wood. Only originals of fine art and fine craft are eligible and must comprise the majority of work displayed. Reproductions must be signed, numbered, and identified as such. Not eligible are crafted items such as soaps or candles, mass-produced items, copyrighted or trademarked images not owned by the artist, and items made from commercial kits or molds. The jury fee is $35.00 (non-refundable). Artists' work will be judged on-site by a panel representing local artists and arts organizations, with awards based on overall quality in both 2-D and 3-D categories. Acceptance is based on originality, craftsmanship, imaginative use of materials, and aesthetic qualities. Applicants must submit four high-quality images showing at least one work for each medium to be displayed, plus an example of booth setup.
Benefits include artist hospitality with breakfast, coffee, and tea Saturday and Sunday mornings; lunch both days; artist support including booth sitters, water, and snacks throughout the event; and overnight security Friday and Saturday. Optional Friday setup is available September 18 starting at 3:30 pm. No electricity will be provided to booths, but access to electricity in the centrally located gazebo is available for charging. Artists may bring batteries or solar panels but no generators are allowed. Shared booths are allowed with up to two artists per space. The Emerging Artist Program is available for artists who have never participated in an established juried fine art fair, providing a half 10' x 10' tent with panels and shelving for a $15 jury fee and $90 booth fee (plus 10% of sales capped at $200). Four emerging artists will be selected and receive free Lawrence Art Guild membership through December 2026. Artists must be present during the entire event and personally staff their booth. The event will be held rain or shine.
