Lasting Impression: SDA's 2023 International Exhibition in Print

Surface Design Association invites artists to submit original fiber-based work for Lasting Impression: SDA's 2023 International Exhibition in Print. Selected work will be featured in the Fall 2023 issue of Surface Design Journal, which is read by artists, gallery owners, curators, scholars, and enthusiasts nationally and internationally. Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply, including 2D and 3D works as well as documentation of time-based media, performance, or conceptual work. Work must have been completed since January 1, 2021, and work executed under classroom or educational guidance is not eligible.

Entries are submitted online through CaFÉ and may include up to three artworks with a maximum of six images total (one overall and one detail image per artwork). Images must be submitted as JPEG files with dimensions of 1200 pixels or larger on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and maximum 5 MB file size. A brief artwork statement of 100-150 words maximum is required, and artists are encouraged to complete the description field for each artwork to provide context for the juror. Selected artists will receive one complimentary print copy of Surface Design Journal. Award honorees will receive expanded coverage in the publication, with categories including Emerging Artist/Next Generation Award, Guest Juror Award, Material Exploration Award, and others. Lorna Hamilton Brown will jury the exhibition.

Entry fees are $30 for SDA members and $45 for non-members, with artists able to enter up to three artworks. Selected artists must provide print quality images at 300 dpi, 6x8" minimum, in jpg or tiff format.
