Last Exit: Painting at The Bakehouse Art Complex

In 1981 Tom Lawson wrote Last Exit: Painting, an essay putting painters on the defensive, directly holding each artist accountable for using paint as a medium. On the brink of that essay's 35th anniversary, The Bakehouse Art Complex (BAC) is hosting a show based on the same principle. In those 35 years painting has changed a good deal and this exhibition offers an opportunity to prove painting's eternal potential. The show will kick off BAC's 30th season.

Artists are invited to submit artworks addressing painting and its current relevance. Artworks must include only paint to be considered. Please reference the essay in your proposal. The exhibition will be held in the Audrey Love Gallery (2,600 sq. ft). The exhibition opens September 11th with a preview on September 10th, on view through October 10th, 2015.

Entry fee is $10.50. Submit 1-6 images of your work. If selected, the artist is responsible for delivery and pick-up of artwork before and after the exhibition. A 20% commission will be applied to all sales. The Bakehouse Art Complex is a not-for-profit organization established in 1986 that offers affordable studio and shared workshop spaces, artist advancement and exhibition opportunities to professional emerging and mid-career artists.
