About This Call
The 2023 "L'arte della Pesca – La Pesca nell'Arte" (Art of Fishing – Fishing in Art) is a juried international art exhibition presented by the Italian Fly-Fishing School (SIM) and the Italian International Museum of Flyfishing "Stanislao Kuckiewicz." Artists are invited to submit 2D or 3D work in any style or genre with subject matter relating to fish, fishing, fly-fishing, fly-tying, and aquatic environments and landscapes. The exhibition runs from June 24 to July 22, 2023, with an opening reception on June 24 at the International Fly-Fishing Museum in Castel di Sangro, Abruzzo, Italy, in conjunction with the SIM Fly Festival and World Fly Fishing Day.
Entry fee is $25. Artists may submit 1-4 images. The entry deadline is May 5, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Jurying results will be announced May 12, 2023. The suggested last shipping date is May 26, 2023, with a deadline for artwork to be received or dropped off by June 9, 2023. All 2D work must be wired and ready for hanging; sawtooth or clip hangers are not allowed. Works on paper should be covered with Plexiglass if glazing is used; glass is not permitted. The organizers reserve the right to exclude work that presents complex exhibition problems and will issue a refund of the entry price in such cases.
Attendance is not required. Attending artists will be offered dining and lodging during the SIM Fly Festival (June 22-26, 4 nights). Artists who donate work to the museum's permanent collection will have lodging provided for an accompanying guest. Attending artists may sell additional artwork during the event without commission fees; 20% of sales of exhibition pieces will be retained for exhibition expenses. Artists are encouraged to demonstrate their techniques at the event. Awards include: First Prize—room and board for two at the 2024 SIM Fly Festival and winning image featured on wine bottle labels; Second Prize—room and board for one at the 2024 SIM Fly Festival; Third Prize—room and board for one at the 2024 SIM Fly Festival. Evaluation criteria include quality of work, originality, adherence to theme and guidelines, and overall presentation. A shipping subsidy of €100 (€200 for non-EU artists) toward international shipping and insurance costs is provided. Contact [email protected] or 518-466-7004 with questions.
