About This Call
Laramie County Community College (LCCC) is seeking artwork for the interior of the Student Services and University Center, an 85,000 square foot building scheduled for completion in December 2016. The building features a commanding open staircase, tall ceilings, and abundant natural light. The selection committee has identified two possible locations for interior work: above the welcome desk (ceiling height approximately 11-1/2 feet) or in the hallway by the conference room (ceiling height approximately 16 feet). Other locations in communal gathering spaces may be considered, and artists are welcome to suggest additional locations.
The committee seeks work that expresses the new phase and forward direction of the college, represents LCCC identity, reflects the building's purpose, or expresses students' paths at the college. All styles, conceptual approaches, and mediums are encouraged, including traditional, contemporary, abstract, or western work. Kinetic or mobile approaches are encouraged, as is new media and video work. The committee is particularly interested in ceiling-mounted work. Proposed artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site-appropriate, and easy to maintain. If lighting is desired, it should be included in plans and budget.
Up to $30,000 is available for artwork, including all design fees, material costs, labor for fabrication and installation, identification label or plaque, and all necessary costs for planning, completion, delivery, and installation. A separate amount is available for design development and travel to site for presentation if necessary. Initial application materials are due June 3, 2016, submitted via CaFÉ. The selection committee will review proposals in June and July 2016. Selected artists may be asked to submit a complete formal design presentation with modest financial compensation. Presentations will take place in Cheyenne, Wyoming, with a decision expected by August 2016. For questions or additional project information, contact Rachel Clifton at [email protected] or 307-777-5305.
