LANDSCAPE: SERENE AND SAVAGE (2023)

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels to submit original artwork to this exhibition. Landscapes are powerful physical and spiritual reminders of our view of the complex material world. Nature can be tranquil and comforting—beautiful gardens, picturesque seacoasts, glowing sunrises and sunsets, gentle rain showers, mighty trees and graceful clouds. On the other hand, nature can be ferocious and dangerous—raging thunderstorms, jagged mountain cliffs, uncontrollable floods, earthquake carnage and the hostile wilderness. Artists are invited to share personal interpretations and visions of landscape. They can be serene or savage, intimate or vast, somber or bright, mysterious or lucid, realistic or imaginary. Human figures can be absent, dominant or diminutive. Images may include landscapes, seascapes, structures and architectural elements. Panoramic views and portrayals of individual flowers, trees, birds and animals are welcome. Reflections and shadows are encouraged. Any style is acceptable: representational, abstract, impressionist, cubist, expressionist, or a synthesis created by the artist. The MVA Gallery accepts painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing and photography.

Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 different images. Additional files may be included for $5.00 each up to a total of 9 maximum. All images must be JPEG format, under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artists should provide title, medium, size, price and year of completion. Artwork must be professionally finished and ready for secure installation with stretched wire attached to the back. Artwork should not be larger than 48 inches (framed) on the longest side and not weigh more than 45 lbs. Sculpture should not be larger than 24 inches on any dimension. Photographs should be framed if a traditional presentation is desired, with black or white frames preferred. All art must remain in the gallery for the full duration of the exhibition.

Notification to artists will be sent by July 8, 2023. Accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery no later than August 7, 2023. The exhibition runs August 12 through September 8, 2023. An "Art of Distinction" Award will be granted, with one artist selected for a special exhibit in Exhibition Room Two. One artist will also be selected from all individuals accepted and displayed in MVA Gallery exhibits during the past calendar year for an exhibition opportunity in New York City, with notification in December.
