About This Call
Denver Botanic Gardens launches Land Line, a new artist-in-residence program in 2021. As the Gardens works to foster appreciation, understanding, transformation and stewardship of the natural world, the residency program seeks to inspire and bring awareness to nature, offering individual perspectives. Residency takes place fall 2021, with exact schedules agreed upon on a case-by-case basis. Majority of residency activity must be completed prior to 12/31/21.
Land Line offers flexible formats allowing for remote residency experiences, shorter-term arrangements, and options for public engagement, both online and in person. Selected creatives will have access to the Gardens' collections (living plants, natural history, art, books), scientists, curators, and multiple locations including the Denver York Street location and Chatfield Farms. Artists working in visual art, music, spoken word, poetry/literature, film/animation, and other born-digital projects will be considered. Denver Botanic Gardens seeks to support diverse perspectives—BIPOC applicants and individuals who identify as part of an historically marginalized group are strongly encouraged to submit.
Four residency formats are available: Remote Residencies (1-2 months, $1,000 honorarium), Regional In-Person Residencies for Colorado/Denver Metro artists (1-2 months, $2,500 honorarium), Hybrid Residencies (2-3 months, $3,000 honorarium), and Mini Residency: Demonstrations and Artist Talks (online, $500 honorarium). All formats except Mini Residency require one public program and one artwork provided to Denver Botanic Gardens for its Education Collection upon completion. Mini Residency requires two online public programs. Artists provide their own art supplies and are responsible for their own travel, transportation, housing, and living expenses. Application deadline: July 23, 2021. Land Line is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
