About This Call
Lakewood Cemetery invites artists to apply for a grant-funded artist in residence opportunity. The residency runs from May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027, with awards ranging from $500 to $10,000.
Throughout its history, Lakewood has served as a place of comfort, solace, and beauty for families and the community, providing inspiration for artistic ideas. As both an active cemetery and cultural landscape, Lakewood is committed to providing new ways to honor, remember, and memorialize through a variety of mediums. Artists are encouraged to develop creative project ideas centered on memorialization, remembrance, history, nature, or inspired by Lakewood itself. Priority may be given to projects that highlight remembrance across cultures.
Eligible artists work in the following categories: Craft/Traditional Arts, Photography, Drawing, Film/Video/New Media, Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline, Painting, and Sculpture. The grant must result in a deliverable product, program, or event that is unique to Lakewood Cemetery. All projects will be presented to the public, with the presentation format and timing to be determined by the artist and Lakewood. The submission deadline is December 15, 2025.
