About This Call
The 40 West ARTline is a public art initiative envisioning an interactive walking and biking art experience connecting people and places. This call is for iconic art installations in three neighborhood parks: Walker-Branch Park (5825 W. 16th Ave.), Aviation Park (1890 Teller St.), and Mountair Park (5620 W. 14th Ave.) in Lakewood, Colorado. One artist or creative team will design and implement art at all three parks to ensure a cohesive experience.
Proposed artwork should be interactive, memorable, and playful; original and unique; demonstrate artistic excellence; be sensitive to the space; show natural flow from one park to the next; be innovative and forward-thinking; feature highly vandal-resistant design and materials; and reflect the unique context, voice, and culture of the neighborhoods along historic West Colfax Avenue and the new W Line light rail. Artists are invited to submit ideas for art placement that may differ from identified locations.
The total budget is $125,000, inclusive of all costs including artist design fee, engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, site modifications, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency. The project will be funded in two phases: Phase 1 provides $90,000 in 2017 for Aviation and Walker-Branch Parks; Phase 2 provides $35,000 anticipated in early 2018, with all artwork expected to be installed by May 30, 2018. Applicants must be legal U.S. residents residing full-time in Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Kansas, Utah, or Nebraska, and must have completed at least one public art project for a municipality or developer with a budget of $40,000 or more. Semi-finalists will receive a $600 honorarium for developing and presenting a full design proposal. Submit 6-12 images through www.callforentry.org by February 26, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
