About This Call
The City of Lakewood, in partnership with 40 West Arts, seeks to commission artists or creative teams to design public art experiences along the 4-mile 40 West ARTline in Lakewood's state-certified 40 West Arts Creative District. This district is located within Two Creeks and Northeast Lakewood, and encompasses historic West Colfax Avenue, which is undergoing a renaissance.
Artists or creative teams may apply to one or more of two art elements, submitting a separate application for each: Creative Route Delineation ($63,500 implementation budget) and/or Connective Tissue ($24,000 implementation budget). Creative Route Delineation seeks a creative team to create repetitive art elements that clearly delineate the ARTline route with artistic cues to help people navigate the entire approximately 4-mile route. These art elements will be repetitive through color, design, and use of the ARTline brand and logo. Connective Tissue seeks artists to create site-specific, interactive art installations at opportunity sites to engage people along the ARTline. Both are requests for concepts (narrative only; no designs requested at this time). Initial concepts are due February 26, 2017. Selected artists will be invited to design proposals, with artwork expected to be installed by May 30, 2018. Semi-finalists will present proposals April 3-7, 2017. The 40 West ARTline project is funded in part through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and Federal guidelines apply.
Eligibility is limited to local artists in Colorado. Applicants may submit 2 applications and must provide 6-12 images. It is recommended that artists visit the 40 West ARTline route and review the Community Input Report available at the 40 West Arts website.
