About This Call
The City of Alexandria, Virginia invites established professional artists and artist teams located throughout the United States to submit qualifications for a public art project as part of the Lake Cook Stormwater Retrofit Project. The selected artist or artist team will join the City's interdisciplinary project team to convert Lake Cook, an existing fishing pond, into an extended stormwater detention facility. The artist will work closely with the Design Team to integrate public art into the site's overall design and layout, attend public meetings, and oversee fabrication and installation of the artwork. Project completion is expected in Fall 2017.
The initial artist design fee is $30,000, with a budget of $60,000 for fabrication and installation. Artists must have experience with comparable projects and demonstrate artistic merit, experience working with communities on engaging artwork, ability to collaborate with City staff and design professionals, and probability of successful project execution. Applicants must submit an artist statement (one paragraph), letter of interest (maximum two pages describing their approach and relevant experience), and resume (maximum four pages). Work sample requirements: minimum 6 images, maximum 2 videos, total 6-8 samples.
Lake Cook is located just north of Eisenhower Avenue, adjacent to Cameron Run Regional Park and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. The Project Task Force will select three semifinalists who will receive a travel honorarium to visit Alexandria for a site tour and interview. The selected artist will be required to sign a contract with the City and obtain a Certificate of Insurance for general liability coverage. Deadline: Sunday, April 17, 2016 at 11:59pm Mountain Standard Time. Contact: [email protected]
