About This Call

The Metro Nashville Arts Commission is seeking proposals for the KVB Roundabout Public Art Project, an invitational competition for professional artists. This project involves creating one artwork or multiple related artworks for a roundabout at the intersection of Korean Veterans Boulevard and 8th Avenue in downtown Nashville. The roundabout is approximately 160 feet in diameter and serves as a significant landmark at the gateway to downtown, in the rapidly developing SoBro (South of Broadway) area.

Four semi-finalists will each receive a $5,000 commission to cover a site visit to Nashville, development of a concept proposal, and presentation to the selection committee. The total project budget is $750,000 for artwork, including artist fees, fabrication, travel, installation, site preparation, insurance, and contingency costs. Artists should consider how their work can become a symbol for Nashville, spur economic development, define this major gateway, and have both daytime and nighttime presence. Secondary considerations include the elevation and vistas of the landscape, Nashville's industrial and cultural history, the eclectic mix of old and new, and creating work that resonates with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Submissions must include a brief artwork description, six digital images of the concept proposal, technical specifications and materials information, a detailed budget, three professional references, and a résumé (not exceeding four pages or 2MB). Selection criteria include artistic merit, site context appropriateness, relevant experience, permanence and maintenance considerations, technical feasibility, and ability to perform according to schedule and budget. Semi-finalists will visit the site on July 11, present proposals to the selection committee on September 11, with artist selection notification in October. Installation date is to be determined pending Tennessee Department of Transportation approvals.
