About This Call

KAAW (The Korean American Artists Association of Washington State) is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 that encourages and supports Korean American artists of Washington state. Korean Wave (Hallyu) is a juried visual art competition open to all artists 18 and older interested in Korean culture. The competition seeks artworks that visualize the essence of Korean culture and influence, reflecting traditional elements or innovations inspired by the dynamic Korean cultural wave. The contest is open to all individuals of any ethnic heritage.

Eligibility: Open to all artists aged 18 and older. At least one of the three submitted artworks must address the Korean Wave theme. Accepted mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, graphite pencil, ink, pastel, mixed media, printmaking, and photography in 2D. No reproductions, digital art, AI-generated, or assisted art will be accepted. Artwork must have been created in the past five years and must be between 18" x 18" minimum and 50" tall x 36" wide maximum. Artwork cannot have been previously exhibited at Lynnwood Event Center. Entry fee is $20 (non-refundable). All images must be submitted digitally and will be judged by jurors based on the files submitted.

Prizes total $2,200: Best Show $1,000, First Prize $500, Second Prize $300, Third Prize $200, and two Honorable Mentions of $100 each. Selected artworks will be exhibited at Lynnwood Event Center from July 1 to December 13, 2024. The reception is September 17, 2024, 6 pm - 8 pm. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance. Artwork must be received by June 20, 2024. For any work sold, 80% of sales goes to the artist and 20% goes to Lynnwood Event Center. Artists may also submit "Not for Sale" artworks. All accepted work must be gallery quality and installation ready to hang.
