About This Call
This workshop at Willow Ponds Retreat in Edna Valley, California focuses on professional practices in gallery representation, museum exhibitions, self-promotion, social media use, critical writing, presentation, and identifying personal and professional goals. The workshop runs September 29-October 1, 2023, with check-in on Friday, September 29 after 3pm. Workshop sessions are held Saturday-Sunday, September 30-October 1 from 9am-4pm, with optional morning and evening activities. Local fare is provided for daily lunches.
16 participants will be selected by a jury of professionals. Accepted artists will be notified by Friday, May 12, 2023. Through private one-on-one sessions and group meetings, students will meet with a team of guest professionals. Applicants must speak and understand English, have a working practice in the visual arts (curators welcome), and complete the application with all questions answered and an artist statement included.
Entry fee is $50. Accepted artists must pay a $500 deposit by May 30, 2023 to hold their spot, with full tuition of $900 due by August 1, 2023. Artists are responsible for their own travel and housing expenses. Special rates for housing have been acquired at a local hotel. Work sample requirements: minimum 5 images, maximum 10 images; audio and video are optional (0-3 each); total samples between 5-16.
