About This Call
Kipaipai California: Joshua Tree is a workshop program held June 14-16, 2019 in Joshua Tree. The application deadline is January 31, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Entry fee is $50.00. Applicants must submit 5-10 images (with up to 3 audio files and 3 video files optional) representing their body of work.
14 participants will be selected by jury. Accepted artists will be notified by Wednesday, February 6, 2019 and must pay tuition of $775 (housing included) in advance to confirm their place. Participants are responsible for their own travel and expenses. Check-in for artists is Friday, June 14 after 3pm, with a Welcome event at 6pm. The workshop runs Saturday-Sunday, June 15-16 from 10am-4pm, with optional morning and evening activities. Joshua Tree Retreat is a rustic desert community with shared housing and public spaces.
Participants will have one-on-one sessions and group meetings with guest faculty including Ray Beldner (artist, educator, and co-founder of Start Up Art Fair), Kimberly Brooks (painter and founder of Huffington Post Arts Section), Betty Ann Brown (art historian and curator), Andi Campognone (curator and Museum Manager/Curator for the City of Lancaster), Diane Costigan (executive and life coach), Alex Couwenberg (painter), Shana Nys Dambrot (art critic and curator), Shanon Kay (entrepreneur and painter), and Mike O'Connor (financial advisor and workshop leader).
