About This Call
Kipaipai, meaning 'To Encourage and Inspire,' is a professional development workshop focusing on gallery representation, museum exhibitions, self-promotion, social media use in promotion, critical writing, presentation skills, and identifying and strategizing personal and professional goals.
The workshop will run Saturday-Sunday, April 14-15, 2018 from 10am-4pm, with optional morning and evening activities. Check-in for artists staying onsite is Friday, April 13, 2018 after 3pm. Fourteen participants will be selected by jury. Accepted artists will be notified by Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Tuition is $775 (housing included) or $575 (without housing). On-site housing is provided for 7 artists; an additional 7 artists may arrange their own housing. Artists are responsible for their own travel expenses except those paying for on-site housing. Entry fee is $50.00. Work sample requirements: 5-10 images and 0-2 videos (5-10 total samples minimum).
Participants will meet with guest faculty through private one-on-one sessions and group meetings. Faculty includes Betty Ann Brown (art historian, critic, and curator); Shana Nys Dambrot (art critic and curator, LA Editor for Whitehot Magazine); Sanie Andres, MA (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist); Walter Maciel (gallery director with 26 years in contemporary art); Kimberly Brooks (American painter and founder of Huffington Post Arts Section); Andi Campognone (curator and Museum Manager/Curator for the City of Lancaster); and Mike O'Connor (financial advisor and storytelling workshop leader). Eligibility is national. Application deadline is January 31, 2018 at 5pm PST.
