About This Call

The Kroger Company invites Colorado-based artists and artist teams to apply for the creation of artwork to be installed in the newly constructed King Soopers Store #138 in Erie, Colorado, with a grand opening slated for approximately August 2024.

This opportunity is specific to two-dimensional muralists for artwork to be incorporated into the main entrance wall. The mural wall dimensions are approximately 24 feet wide by 8 feet high. The selection panel has suggested the mural celebrate the spirit of the community of Erie and its surrounding neighboring community. A total mural budget of $10,000.00 is available per artist or team of artists. All finalists are expected to stay within the budget and complete work within the approved timeframe. Artwork should not obstruct the right of way or impede pedestrian traffic flow. Artwork will need to be applied to panels before installation, which will be completed by a Kroger subcontractor. All materials must be highly durable and low-maintenance.

Up to three artists or artist teams will be selected as semi-finalists and will receive a $300.00 stipend to develop a concept proposal. Semi-finalists will receive more specific site information, have the opportunity to meet with the Selection Committee, develop a concept design, and install a mural at the designated site. Applicants must submit 4-8 digital images of previously completed artworks or murals, a statement of interest (maximum 2000 characters) outlining interest in the project and how their work celebrates the spirit of the Erie community, and a one-to-two-page résumé or CV highlighting professional accomplishments and prior public art experience. There is no application fee. All materials must be submitted via the CAFÉ system at www.callforentry.org. For questions, contact Mary Valdez, Public Art Program Manager, at [email protected].
