About This Call
The 2022 Kinetic Art Project: Wind, Water, and Light is a public art initiative managed by Arts Cheyenne in partnership with the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority and the City of Cheyenne. This three-year initiative seeks six kinetic art sculptures where movement, color, sound, and other sensory experiences are the focus. The sculptures will be installed outdoors in the historic West Edge District in downtown Cheyenne from May 2022 until April 2023. Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $1,000, with an additional $1,000 People's Choice award available through summer 2022.
The project prioritizes new works utilizing wind, light, or water, and celebrates artists working in raw materials throughout the Rocky Mountain region. Artists working in metal, iron, wood, and other weather-hardy materials are encouraged to apply. Submissions must be highly-durable, three-dimensional sculptures capable of withstanding high winds and hail, with a maximum height of 20 feet. Sculptures must be available for sale, with Arts Cheyenne retaining a 15% commission on any purchased artwork. Artists are responsible for transportation to and from Cheyenne, with all sculptures required to be available for installation by May 27, 2022. Recognition plaques will be supplied indicating title, medium, artist, and contact information.
Eligibility is limited to United States residents who own all rights to their sculpture. Applicants must submit 3-5 images and up to 1 video (3-6 total samples). The entry deadline is March 11, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
