About This Call

The KIA High School Area Show is open to students in grades 9-12 who reside in the Michigan counties of Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, or Van Buren. Students in the 6th Congressional District may also submit work for consideration in the Congressional Art Competition, pending confirmation that it will take place.

Each student may submit up to two unique original artworks in any medium. Works must not exceed 6 feet in any direction. Artworks considered for the Congressional Art Competition must be framed and not exceed 26" x 26" x 4" deep. All 2-D work should be framed with sturdy wire for hanging, using Plexiglas rather than glass. No snap frames are allowed. 3-D work must be sturdy and able to be handled and moved safely. The KIA has limited frames available for 2-D work matted to sizes of 16" x 20", 20" x 24", 24" x 30", or 30" x 40". Direct copies of existing works of art are not accepted.

The submission deadline is Sunday, March 15, 2021 by midnight. All entries must be submitted online. The entry fee is $3 per artwork, due by Saturday, April 17. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch may waive all fees. Accepted artists will be notified via email on Thursday, April 1 and Friday, April 2, 2021. Artwork must be hand delivered to the KIA at 314 S. Park St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007 during April 8-10 or April 15-17, 2021 (12-6:30pm Thursday, 11am-5pm Friday and Saturday). Work must remain on view through Tuesday, June 2, 2021. Any artist whose work is accepted is eligible for awards. Scholarship awards will be announced Friday, April 30 at 6pm during a virtual award ceremony. In 2020, 89 scholarships and prizes were awarded. All work is submitted at the owner's risk; the KIA is not responsible for insurance during transit or while artwork is on its premises.
