About This Call
Rafanelli & Nahas is seeking a proposal for the installation of a mural on the westward facing wall of Key Financial Center located at 702 W. Idaho Street in Boise. The existing wall is approximately 134 feet in height and 56 feet in width, with twenty 26x11 foot panels arranged in two vertical rows of ten.
Key Financial Center was built in 1962 and designed by W.C. Kruger Co. for the Bank of Idaho. The building is now owned by Rafanelli & Nahas and hosts various law firms, engineering firms, and banks. The ownership team is looking for a fresh exterior that can illustrate an abstract understanding of the dynamic between the Boise pedestrian and their urban environment. The goal is to incorporate the historical context of the landscape in relation to local demographic changes while creating something innovative, modern, and chic that acknowledges the area's historical reality.
Artists must submit a rendering of their proposed mural along with: artist resume with contact information and accomplishments; minimum of two references; artist biography or portfolio including at least three previously completed works; proposal narrative addressing why they are interested in the project, their vision and process, description of the image, and how their art will enhance downtown Boise; proposed installation timeline; and itemized budget including artist fee, labor, rental equipment, permits, travel/lodging, and insurance. No budget is proposed by the organization; the artist's proposed budget will be a significant consideration in selection. Artist must use materials with a proven useful life of over 20 years and must be comfortable participating in press and media opportunities. No artwork requiring mounting, drilling, or similar affixing methods will be considered. Upon selection and contract signing, 100% ownership of the artwork becomes property of Rafanelli & Nahas as a work made for hire. Materials must be submitted by the deadline as a single PDF file via email or in person to Jacob Schoenherr at 702 W. Idaho St. Boise, ID 83702.
