Kearns Library Public Art

Salt Lake County is seeking an artist or artist team to create unique artworks for installation at the new Kearns Library located at 5350 South 4220 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. The selected artist(s) should have experience working with community members in the design development process as well as fabrication.

The artwork should address one or more of the following goals: work collaboratively with the community in design development and fabrication; maintain continuity between exterior and interior artworks; reflect the spirit and diverse community of Kearns; reflect the history of Kearns (Camp Kearns); fit appropriately in scale to the project site; be aesthetically compatible with the building's architecture; be a quality work of art; and be able to withstand and be easily maintained in a public setting. The project budget is up to $117,000 for both exterior and interior artworks.

This is a two-stage selection process. In the first phase, artists must submit a letter of interest with a brief written statement about their approach to the project, up to ten images of relevant work, and biographical information. Finalists will be invited to travel to Salt Lake City (with expense compensation) to meet with the Selection Committee, ask detailed questions, and provide initial observations and responses to the site. Eligibility is open to all professional artists and artist-led teams based in Utah who can demonstrate proficiency in executing work of similar scope and scale. Submit 3-10 images and up to 3 videos.
