About This Call
Visions of the Flint Hills Art Benefit and Sale is a juried art show in Kansas City, Mo. promoting art of the Flint Hills of Kansas and the Great Plains. The event runs from October 1, 2010 through November 20, 2010, with partial proceeds benefiting the Kansas Park Trust, a non-profit organization that promotes the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and the Flint Hills of Kansas.
This call is open to artists living or working in Kansas or living in Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, or Oklahoma. Works in ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture are welcome. Art submitted must thematically or graphically reference the Flint Hills of Kansas and/or the Great Plains. Two-dimensional work cannot exceed 6' x 6'. Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 7' in height and 4' in diameter; three-dimensional submissions must include size measurements. Submissions are limited to two pieces per artist. A brief statement about the work and/or artistic philosophy, personal bio information, and previous exhibits are requested. There is no entry fee.
Artists will receive 50% of the sale price of any art sold; the balance benefits the Kansas Park Trust. The event will be held at Buttonwood Art Space, 3013 Main Street in the Union Hill section of Kansas City, Mo. A special showing for select individuals and sponsors will be held on September 30, 2010. Artists will be notified of acceptance by email starting September 1, 2010. Work is due at Buttonwood Art Space on September 24, 2010. The juror is Karla Stangel Prickett, Visual Arts Director for the Smoky Hill River Festival and Project Coordinator for Salina's Community Art & Design Program.
