About This Call

The River Market Regional Exhibition is the Kansas City Artists Coalition's 35th Annual Juried Competition. The theme "Sounds of the City" was selected to celebrate the 2017 designation of Kansas City as a music city by UNESCO. Artists are invited to interpret the theme, drawing on whatever musical, rhythmic, organic, or staccato sound that inspires them.

The exhibition is unrestricted in media and open to artists residing in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, as well as members of the Kansas City Artists Coalition. Work must address the theme in some capacity. All visual media is eligible, including video. Work requiring special installation will be accepted only if the artist is available to install on July 12 or by appointment. Video submissions require artists to use KCAC's two 42-inch LED monitors and blu-ray players, or provide their own equipment for the duration of the exhibition.

The entry fee is $40 for 1-5 entries (non-refundable). Artists who join or renew membership by May 16, 2018 prior to entering receive a 50% discount. Submissions must include 1-10 total samples (1-5 images and/or 0-5 videos). The deadline for submissions is May 23, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT via www.CallForEntry.org. Accepted artists will be notified beginning June 12. The exhibition runs July 13 – August 10, 2018 in the Mallin and Charno Galleries. The juror is Saralyn Reece Hardy, Marilyn Stokstad Director of the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas. Awards total $2,000 in cash prizes. The Artists Coalition will publish an illustrated catalog as a PDF and online. The Artists Coalition provides insurance for the exhibition and takes a 30% commission on work sold. Artists are responsible for providing their own insurance during shipment. Accepted works must be delivered July 5-7 and remain in the gallery until the close of the exhibition.
