About This Call
The Veterans Residency Program at Kala offers 1-4 months of studio residency with 24/7 studio access. Residents receive a $1,000 cash stipend, one month of housing at Kala's apartment for artists coming from outside the Bay Area, and access to individual project spaces (150-200 sq ft) or a large shared project space (400 sq ft). The program includes a funded Kala class or workshop, participation in Kala events, and support from Kala staff. Residents join a community of approximately 75 artists working at Kala.
The program is open to veterans nationally across multiple disciplines including Craft/Traditional Arts, Photography, Drawing, Film/Video/New Media, Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline, Painting, and Sculpture. The application fee is $25, with a submission deadline of March 1, 2026.
The Veterans Residency Program is funded in part by Creative Forces®: NEA Military Healing Arts Network, an initiative of the National Endowment in partnership with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. Additional funding includes the California Arts Council Impact Projects and UC Berkeley Chancellor's Community Partnership Fund.
