About This Call
The K-12 Art Educator Artist-in-Residence is a six-week fellowship program intended to present participants as role models for the OCAC community, advance the careers of practicing artists in K-12 Art Education, and strengthen public awareness of the significance of art and craft education. Residents are expected to pursue a body of work while at OCAC, be involved with students in Community Programs, and interact with the larger OCAC community. The residency takes place for six continuous weeks of the resident's choosing between June 15th and August 16th, 2015.
Eligibility: Applicants must be visual artists currently teaching in a K-12 school, practicing visual artists currently producing works of art, able to provide evidence of 5 or more years of active professional studio practice, and residents of Oregon or Washington. The College seeks candidates whose careers have demonstrated strong dedication to art education and sustained studio practice, including critical and academic attention through juried and invitational exhibitions, gallery representation, or coverage in recognized art publications. Applicants from diverse cultural and aesthetic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Benefits include a $2,500 stipend, use of state-of-the-art studios, on-campus housing if needed (limited to residents only), one Studio School continuing education class or workshop, focused time for studio engagement, and supportive interaction with fellow artists and students. Residents must commit as full-time residents for their chosen period, provide all materials used during the residency, be accessible to OCAC students and the College community, produce a significant body of work and/or engage in explorations of new directions, and contribute to the community through a total of 20 hours of activities such as lectures, open studio hours, teaching workshops, and critiques. Applicants will be judged on the quality of their portfolios, the originality and scope of their residency proposal, potential for working within a community of makers, and relevance of the proposal to resources available at OCAC. The program is funded by a generous grant from the Collins Foundation.
