About This Call
deliberate distortions: jazz in today's art is an exhibition of both visual and audio art running from September 1-26, 2015 at The Studio Door (3750 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92116-3632). The Studio Door is seeking the sights and sounds that create a portrait of jazz. As an American art form, jazz has always found its power in spontaneity, personal experience and collaboration. Show us adjacent possibilities where music and visual art collide.
Visual categories accepted include painting, drawing, photo, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, ceramics, stain glass and sculpture. No digital prints or photographic reproductions of artwork. This exhibition does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation and works requiring an external electrical source. Audio submissions should be submitted as separate AIFF, WAV, XMF or MP3 files, less than 10 minutes long. All submissions must be the artist's original work.
Entry fee is $35 for one submission, $40 for two submissions, or $45 for three submissions. Work sample requirements: 1-3 total samples (0-3 images and/or 0-3 audio files). Artwork maximum size: 2-dimensional work up to 4 feet height and width (including frame); 3-dimensional work must fit a 16 inch x 16 inch pedestal or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space. Artworks must arrive ready to hang and be presented professionally.
A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works that express the most imaginative interpretation of the theme. One work will be designated "Best in Show" and used as the cover of the exhibition catalog. The juror will select works for display at The Studio Door gallery in San Diego and additional works for the online gallery only. All visual artwork selected will be included in the virtual exhibition catalog. All audio artwork selected will be streamed online at The Studio Door's website. Artists grant The Studio Door permission to photograph selected artwork and use images for marketing and publicity without compensation.
Deadline for submission: July 15, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be notified by July 31, 2015. Hand-delivery of artwork: Saturday, August 28, 2015.
