About This Call
ONCE UPON A TIME: Fairy Tales, Fables and Myths is a juried exhibition of visual art running from June 2-28, 2015 at The Studio Door in San Diego. The Studio Door is seeking artwork that represents the storytelling artist. Artists are invited to explore familiar stories (girls in red hoods, bridge trolls and racing rabbits) and tales less well known to the general public (wandering dervishes, the underwater dragon princess and the webs of Anansi). Reveal the fantastic, the cautionary and the mundane in your storytelling creations.
Accepted categories include painting, drawing, photo, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, ceramics, stain glass and sculpture. No digital prints or photographic reproductions of artwork. This exhibition does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation and works requiring an external electrical source. Submissions must be the artist's original work. For 2-dimensional work, maximum size is 7 feet height by 4 feet width including frame. For 3-dimensional work, must fit a pedestal sized 16 inches x 16 inches or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space. Artworks must arrive ready to hang and be presented professionally.
Entry deadline is March 31, 2015. Entry fee is $35 for one to three submissions, plus $5 per additional media. Submit 1-3 images of your work online through CaFÉ. The juror will select works for display at The Studio Door gallery in San Diego and for an online gallery only. A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works that express the most imaginative interpretation of the theme. One work will be designated "Best in Show" and used as the cover of the exhibition catalog. Artists will be notified by April 17, 2015. Hand-delivery of artwork is Saturday, May 23, 2015. Shipped artwork must be received no later than May 22, 2015. Opening reception is June 12, 2015 from 6 PM-9 PM. Sales commission is 60% to artists, 40% to The Studio Door.
