About This Call
Juniata College seeks to acquire or commission a contemporary outdoor sculpture for its campus in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The work will mark the entrance to Kepple Hall for Integrated Media and Studio Arts, completed in 2017. The sculpture should embody or suggest a spirit of peace and inclusivity, representing the intersection of academic disciplines and the welcoming nature of the campus community. It will mark a sightline that unites parts of the campus.
The project is privately funded with a maximum total budget of $50,000, inclusive of all fees, production or acquisition costs, shipping, installation, and contingencies. The sculpture will be situated outdoors without cover and must withstand variable climate conditions including significant rain, snowfall, ice, summer humidity, and winter dryness. The site is approximately 45' x 25', surrounded by walkways on all sides, with access to water and electrical. A hardscape foundation is preferred. Avoid versions of Juniata's mascots and explicitly historical references to persons or events.
Applicants must submit 3-5 images of relevant past work with identification including project/object title, date, location, scale, medium, and owner/commissioning agent; a brief project proposal or statement about relevancy (max 3000 characters); and artist resume or curriculum vitae (max 3 pages). New or existing work is eligible. The entry fee is $10. Applications are due March 22 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Short-list applicants (maximum of 3) will be notified April 3 and must submit a fully realized proposal with detailed budget and maintenance plan by April 26. The Selection Committee will make its recommendation by May 8.
