Juneteenth Youth Art Competition

The Juneteenth Youth Art Competition invites students to research, choose, interpret, and create visual artworks based on the 12 Freedoms Gained when Juneteenth came in 1865: Birth and Name Their Children, Do Business, Dress, Grow Food for Their Own Gain, Marry, Own, Preserve Heritage, Read and Write, Serve in the Military, Travel, Vote and Govern, and Worship. This extracurricular activity helps students gain historical background on Juneteenth and the first 150 years following the Emancipation Proclamation (1865-1945), while understanding how Juneteenth relates to freedom for all Americans.

To participate, students should review research resources available on www.12freedomsgained.com, create an original work of art expressing their understanding of their chosen concept, and register and submit a picture of their artwork. Entry fee is $10.00. Submissions must include a minimum of 1 image and maximum of 1 image. At the close of the call, judges will review each submitted piece. Winners will be notified, offered an opportunity to be part of the Juneteenth Art Exhibit, and awarded a cash prize.
