About This Call
The City of Deerfield Beach is seeking muralists and graffiti artists for a live painting competition at the Juneteenth Freedom Day event. Two to four local artists will be selected to paint on 8' x 20' shipping containers in a live painting event to be completed the same day.
The theme is "African American Heritage." Artists should submit designs incorporating historical landmarks, figures, icons, scenery, inventions, or other elements relating to African American culture and heritage. The Deerfield Beach "Buck" logo must be incorporated into the design. Any style is welcome, including wild style writing, realism, and abstract. Submissions are limited to 4 entries per artist. Submit a mockup or rough draft by June 14, 2021. Designs must be family-oriented with no profanity or nudity. Include a short artist bio with images of previous works or a portfolio link.
The event takes place June 19, 2021, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Oveta McKeithan Recreational Complex, 445 SW 2nd St., Deerfield Beach, FL 33441. The City will provide art materials including paint, spray paint, brushes, markers, and other requested supplies. Judges and community voting will determine winners. Prize amounts: 1st place $1,000, 2nd place $500, all other participants $300. Winners will receive promotion and recognition, with artist information displayed on the painted containers, city website, and other city outlets. Completed artwork will be displayed throughout the city for an extended period.
