About This Call
Journeys Onward is a juried exhibition exploring the photographic artistic expression of veterans and their families in the context of their military experiences. The Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts (RICPA), located at 118 N. Main St., Providence, RI 02903, invites artists to share their stories through photography accompanied by written words reflecting military experiences. The exhibition creates an opportunity and forum for artists to share their past experiences and their journeys onward, fostering communication and understanding between and among the military and civilian communities.
Eligibility: Any artist at least 18 years old who is either a current or past member of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard), the Reserve Corps, or National Guard; or an immediate family member (parent, sibling, child, spouse, grandparent, or grandchild) of such a member. Eligible artists do not have to be U.S. residents or citizens. RICPA may require documentation for proof of eligibility.
Artwork Requirements: Art must be 2D or 3D with photography as a significant element. All artwork must be original, exhibition-ready to hang or position, and ready to sell. Maximum size is 48" including frame. Artists may submit up to 10 images. A short written statement of the artwork's relevance to the veteran experience is required. Entry fee is $15 for the first image; $10 for each additional image. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email no later than September 16, 2019. Exhibition runs October 17 – November 15, 2019, with opening reception October 17th, 5:00-9:00pm. In-person delivery: October 12-15, 2019. Shipped deliveries must arrive by October 10, 2019. Work return: in-person pickup November 16, 2019, or shipped return after that date. RICPA retains 30% commission on works sold (20% for current members). Juror: Mick Cochran.
