About This Call
Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency offers a seven-week residency from May 24 to July 12, 2016. The program is open to international artists. Entry fee is $35.00, with a deadline of March 16, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists may submit up to 10 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files (10 total samples maximum).
Selected artists will be announced on April 15, 2016. All chosen artists receive a scholarship/stipend between $700-$1,000 to cover program costs and other expenses such as art materials, transportation, and food. Each artist is assigned a house for living and working, with the option to use a dedicated shared studio space. Some houses are located near the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, others in Pipes Canyon and Flamingo Heights. Note that summer temperatures in the high desert are very hot; all houses are equipped with cooling units.
Residency expectations include donating one completed work to the program, conducting a workshop or presentation about the artist's work for the Joshua Tree community (scheduled around the 3rd or 4th week), participating in a mid-residency review to discuss progress, and curating the final exhibition at Joshua Tree Art Gallery with an opening reception. Selection is based on portfolio merit and residency proposal. For questions, contact [email protected] or call 760-366-3636.
