About This Call
Josephine Sculpture Park (JSP) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2009 located on 40 acres of reclaimed farmland in Franklin County, Kentucky. The park is free and open daily, hosting a rotating exhibition of over 70 contemporary artworks, primarily large-scale sculpture and murals. JSP has exhibited work from over 1,000 artists worldwide and provided residency opportunities to nearly 40 artists.
The Artist-in-Residence program provides artists the opportunity to make new work on a large-scale with physical space, technical support, and financial support. Up to 2 artists will be selected for the 2025-2026 residency through a competitive national call reviewed by JSP's Curatorial Committee. Artists should be primarily visual artists working in sculpture as well as sound and performance as responsive experiences to sculpture and the natural environment. In 2025, selected artists will visit Frankfort for a 1- to 3-day site visit (July-October 2025) to plan their residency. In 2026, selected artists will be in residence for up to 10 weeks, with duration depending on the scale and scope of the proposed artwork. Artists receive technical support from staff, hands-on assistance from community volunteers, material support, and access to a fully equipped studio and outdoor work pad. The artwork will be on exhibition for 2 years at JSP.
Residency details are tailored to each artist's proposed artwork and include three main components: artwork creation, installation and exhibition; informal public interaction with JSP visitors; and participation in at least one community engagement event. Artists are responsible for securing lodging, though JSP provides a lodging stipend of $500/week for up to 10 weeks. Artists are also responsible for all travel and transportation needs. Applicants must submit 4-8 images of their work. The application deadline is May 14, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
