About This Call

The Haddonfield Outdoor Sculpture Trust (HOST) and the Haddonfield Foundation are commissioning an artist or artist team to create a public sculpture in honor of Joseph F. Haro, a community member whose generosity and dedication to the arts inspired this memorial project. The selected artwork will be permanently installed at the Haddonfield Public Library, 60 N Haddon Ave, Haddonfield, NJ 08033, in an area known as the "Library Point," with optimal placement on the Haddon Avenue side with views from Kings Highway.

The selection committee welcomes entries in all durable media suitable for outdoor installation, including realism, figurative, multi-media, kinetic, and environmental works. The committee particularly encourages applications from historically marginalized and underrepresented communities, including artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latino/x, Asian American, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ communities. Artists at various career stages and practicing diverse artistic disciplines are encouraged to apply. The goal is to find a work that becomes a destination where visitors of all ages and abilities can gather and engage with their senses.

The budget for this commission is USD $300,000.00, which must include the artist's design fee, consultation fees such as structural engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, site modifications, travel, per diem, project documentation, contingency funds, and other costs. Prevailing wage requirements apply for all work performed on Borough property. Applicants must consider durability, long-term conservation, and maintenance. Finalists will receive an honorarium to prepare proposals and be interviewed in person or virtually. The selected artist or artist team will work with HOST to finalize designs for installation. Deadline for entry is April 1, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. EST via the CaFÉ system. Finalist selection is May 1, 2025, with selected artist notification on July 1, 2025.
