About This Call
Sculptures will be located along a route connecting the east and west sides of East Jordan, MI on city property. An attractive new municipal walkway connects the two parts of the city where the Jordan River empties into Lake Charlevoix. This project has added access to pedestrian, bicycle and motorized vehicle traffic. Sculptures will be placed along this pathway and into the downtown area. The art walk is currently anchored by a city park on the west side river estuary and by the municipal harbor/concert shell on the east side. The project will add 6-8 sculptures in 2022.
The sculptures will be in place for 3 years (June 15, 2022-June 2025) and may be for sale by the artist with a 20% commission to the committee. If sold, the work of art will remain in place until the end of the exhibit or be replaced with another sculpture by the artist with approval of the committee. There is a stipend of $600 for the artists selected for the exhibit. Artists are responsible for installing and deinstalling their artworks. Concrete pads will be provided to fit the works of art.
Requirements are for 3D art only. A jurying committee of local artists and citizens will make selections based on: (1) artistic merit of the original work, (2) artwork must be of a safe design, construction, and have the ability to be safely secured, (3) artwork must be durable for outside display year-round, and (4) art must be compatible with the unique setting of the East Jordan environs. Eligibility: Any professional or student 3D artist 18 years or older. Applicants may submit 1-3 images.
