About This Call
The John H. Boner Community Center (JHBCC) is requesting qualifications from artists to create a wall-hung artwork that visually represents the accomplishments, energy and excitement created by the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl and its impact on the Near Eastside neighborhood. The piece should capture the impact of the Indianapolis Super Bowl Legacy Project and serve as recognition to the many donors who made the Legacy Projects possible. Part of the creative process will engage neighborhood youth in creating this piece, with staff from the JHBCC and the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center available to assist with coordination.
The artwork will be permanently installed on the property of the John H. Boner Community Center in a highly visible 10'x10' location above the main entrance on the second floor. Maximum size is 10'x10' feet with depth up to 3 feet. The wall is constructed of 20 gauge 6" metal studs and will require 2x wood blocking at anchor points. Total budget is $10,000: $5,000 for materials and supplies (some materials available at no charge) and $5,000 for artist honorarium. The piece must be installed before February 5, 2013, when it will be revealed in conjunction with the Super Bowl.
Eligibility: Applicant must be 18 years or older and a US resident. Application includes a brief project description (not to exceed 300 words highlighting both artwork and youth component), up to 10 images of previous projects and/or renderings, and resume/CV (not to exceed 3 pages). Selection criteria include strong aesthetics, track record of completed projects of similar scope, ability to incorporate and work with youth, ability to work within budget, and ability to meet deadlines. Entry deadline: September 30, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artist will be selected by October 12, 2012.
