Jemez Springs Bridges Public Art Commission

The Art in Public Places program is seeking an artist or artist team to create a site-specific design for pedestrian railings on two new bridges in Jemez Springs, New Mexico. The design will be used on both bridges to create visual continuity throughout the village. A mold will be created from the completed artwork and cast by contractors in concrete panels measuring 28 inches tall by 14 feet wide by 2 inches deep. The design theme is "The Heritage of the Jemez Monument," referencing the early historic events of the community and may be interpreted symbolically or figuratively.

This opportunity is open to all artists or artist teams who are legal residents of New Mexico. The project budget is $7,000, which includes all fees and expenses. The final deliverable will be a to-scale 24" X 36" drawing with identified relative depths and textures. The selected artist will be expected to attend all meetings for design, approvals, and fabrication. Up to five finalists will be invited to a formal interview.

Submission requirements include a letter of interest addressing the project needs and professional qualifications, a current resume or curriculum vitae demonstrating relevant work experience (particularly public art or commission projects), an annotated image list with title, media, dimensions, year of completion, project description, budget, and commissioning agency, and ten images of previously completed work. All materials must be submitted in digital format. The submission deadline is November 1, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of finalists will be November 8, 2010, with finalist presentations on November 15, 2010. Artwork design must be completed and delivered by December 22, 2010.
