About This Call
Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) is seeking a Co-Lead Artist to work on the Paul JAS Center Mural Project in Aspen, Colorado. The project aims to produce murals that beautify the new JAS building, celebrate the vibrancy of JAS and the history of jazz and related forms of music, and engage the community in the process.
Two murals will be created: one on the exterior of the new JAS building and one in the main stairwell and hallway. The Aspen Co-Lead Artist will work with Mural Arts Philadelphia co-lead artist Miriam Singer to meet with JAS stakeholders, co-design the murals, participate in design reviews, develop community engagement activities, participate in learning sessions on mural production approaches, organize production steps and materials, produce portions of the murals, install and complete the mural production, and collaborate on public programming and communications. The artist may manage an assistant artist for up to $2,000 in additional compensation (subject to JAS approval). Total artist compensation is $12,000, not including mural production supplies.
Project Timeline: June-July 2025 artist selection; July 26, 3-5 pm Mural Arts Workshop and Q&A at Red Brick Center for the Arts in Aspen; September design creation and JAS approval of interior mural design; October interior mural production; November interior mural installation (complete by November 21); December interior mural dedication; Winter 2026 exterior mural design approval; Spring 2026 exterior mural production and installation. Eligibility is limited to local Colorado artists. Applicants must submit 7-14 images of work samples.
