About This Call

Jacksonville State University's Department of Art seeks exhibit proposals from professional artists and/or curators for its 2018 schedule. All mediums are welcome. This call operates on a rolling deadline with applicants reviewed by the Gallery Committee in Fall 2017, Spring 2018, and Fall 2018. Applicants not selected during those times may be considered for future exhibitions.

Hammond Gallery features current museum standard lighting and recently renovated facilities. Exhibits rotate with a new show approximately every four weeks. Two proposals will be selected for each academic semester. Selected artists/curators will receive a solo exhibition, a $500 honorarium, and an invitation to campus with an overnight stay. As an educational institution, JSU encourages and can provide facilities or assistance for educational components such as gallery talks, lectures, and/or workshops.

Applications must include up to 5 images and/or up to 3 videos of current work, a written proposal describing the exhibit and installation needs, and an artist statement/bio. Exhibition dates will be established by agreement between the artist/curator and Gallery Coordinator. Shipped work must arrive no later than one week prior to opening. The artist agrees to exhibit proposed work for the entire length of the exhibit and provide exhibition-ready work. Two-dimensional work must be ready to hang; three-dimensional works should be stable and secure. The Department of Art will sponsor an opening reception and may schedule additional events. The artist is responsible for providing insurance coverage during transit; JSU will insure works once in the gallery. Work must be picked up within one week of closing; JSU is not responsible for work left after 30 days of the closing date.
