About This Call
This is a public art commission for one three-dimensional, free-standing sculpture to be installed adjacent to the main entrances of the Jacksonville Jaguars' new sports performance center. The sculpture should be 15'-20' high by 5'-7' wide by 5'-7' deep, weighing no more than 1,000 lbs. Materials may include metal, stone, glass, and/or alternative or repurposed materials. The artwork must withstand hurricane wind gusts of 145 mph and can include a light feature.
Artists must be over 21 years old, not currently enrolled in a formal degree program, and have been creating and installing public art for more than seven years. The project budget is $130,000, which covers all costs to the artist including artwork proposals, engineering, permitting, fabrication, shipping, delivery, storage, insurance, travel, lighting (if applicable), sales tax, and installation. The client will provide a pre-fabricated concrete base with footer and electricity (if applicable).
Applications must include an artist statement, current resume emphasizing public art experience, a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 images (or up to 2 videos of 120 seconds each), a colorized sketch or computer rendering of the proposed concept design shown from front, back, and side with dimensions included, and a narrative describing the artwork's symbolism, intention, and technical details. The application deadline is October 28, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MST. The commissioned artist will be notified November 21-23, 2022, with final design due January 4, 2023, and site installation scheduled for June 1-10, 2023.
