Intimate Scale at Art Works Downtown

Intimate Scale invites all artists working in all mediums and styles to submit small-scale works embodying quiet intensity, intimate presence, and thoughtful juxtapositions. The exhibition highlights the value of alternative curatorial spaces and visions, celebrating the unique intimacy of Art Works Downtown's Donors' Gallery at 1325 Fourth Street. Jurors are Sara Gallagher and Tubi Ho of Studio 5 Contemporary.

Eligibility is limited to San Francisco Bay Area artists only (artist must live within 100 miles from San Rafael, California). Artwork must not exceed 10" including frame, stand, and all materials. The call is open to most subject matter including abstraction and all wall-based visual arts media, including sculpture. Video artists must include dimensions of equipment in submission and supply all equipment—including headphones—for the exhibition; projections are prohibited. Original artwork only; no giclées or reproductions. Images of explicit sexual content or violence will not be considered. Submissions must not have previously exhibited in the Donors' Gallery. The application fee is $10 for up to 3 entries. Work samples may include up to 3 images and/or up to 3 videos (minimum 1 total sample required).

Notification by email will be sent July 3–4. Accepted entries must be hand delivered July 31–Aug 2, 12–5:30 pm to Art Works Downtown, 1337 Fourth St., San Rafael. The exhibition runs Aug 8–Sept 26, with public visiting hours Wednesday–Saturday, 12–6 pm. Opening reception and 2nd Friday Art Walk is Aug 8, 5–8 pm; second reception and 2nd Friday Art Walk is Sept 12, 5–8 pm. Unsold artwork pickup is Sept 27, 12–5:30 pm. Art Works Downtown expects a 40% donation upon sale. Artists who do not retrieve their work will be charged a storage fee of $5.00 per day; works remaining after 30 days will become property of Art Works Downtown.
