About This Call
In 2018, Western medicine discovered the interstitium, a fluid-filled space between all body tissues that interconnects every part of the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine has understood and utilized this knowledge since approximately 1027. The interstitium was invisible under microscopic slides because the fluid collapses when examined this way, but can be easily seen using real-time imaging once you know to look for it.
This exhibition explores the intersection of art and medicine, asking: Where do we draw the lines between art, medical imagery, icons, propaganda, and marketing? Why do we create these categories? In what ways can different genres of imagery, methodologies of inquiry, or contexts of presentation help us see differently or recognize something previously unknown? How can an artist's interpretation of the medical field help us explore, cope, discover, and heal in new ways that impact our holistic wellbeing—physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional?
All two and three-dimensional mediums are invited to apply, as well as video, performance, dance, theatrical, and musical performance pieces. Each submission must include an artist statement pertaining to the image or specific body of work. The exhibition runs from September 2, 2025 to December 20, 2025. Work must be received by the gallery by August 16, 2025. Entry fee is $30.00 plus a $5.00 media fee. Submissions may include 1-6 total samples (up to 5 images, 5 audio files, and/or 5 video files). International artists are eligible.
