About This Call
The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington will host the INTERSTATE juried exhibition. The exhibition is open to submissions in all media and subject matter with no required theme. The subtitle "where I-90 meets I-82" locates the exhibition in Ellensburg and suggests the flow and exchange of artwork across geographic distances and boundaries. Proceeds from this national exhibition will support student scholarships in the CWU Department of Art.
The exhibition is open to artists over 18 working in all 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and video formats. Works created or completed as a student are not eligible. Only original works where the artist is the sole copyright holder will be accepted. Entry fee is $35 for up to three submissions. Work samples may include 1-3 images, 0-3 audio files, and 0-3 video files (maximum 3 total samples). All work must be ready to display with clear installation instructions. Framed 2-dimensional pieces must include supporting wire and use plexiglas only (no glass). Unframed works on paper may be hung using clips or magnets provided by the artist. 3-dimensional work intended to be hung must include a secure hanging device. Works cannot exceed 4 feet in any direction or weigh more than 70 pounds.
The juror is Jennifer Navva Milliken, Curator of Craft at Bellevue Arts Museum. Awards include First Place: $500 and a solo exhibition during the 2017/2018 or 2018/2019 academic year; Second Place: $300; Third Place: $200; and three Sarah Spurgeon Gallery Honorable Mentions. Entries must be submitted online by September 4, 2015. Notification of results will be sent by email on or before September 25, 2015. Accepted work must arrive by October 23, 2015. The exhibition runs November 5 through December 6, 2015. An opening reception and juror's talk will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Shipping costs and insurance are the artist's responsibility. The Gallery provides insurance coverage while works are on premises but cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage in transit.
