About This Call
INTERSTATE is a national juried exhibition hosted by the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. The exhibition is open to submissions in all media and subject matter; artwork does not need to follow a particular theme. The subtitle, "where I-90 meets I-82," locates the exhibition in Ellensburg, Washington, and suggests the flow and exchange of artwork across geographic distances and boundaries. Proceeds from this national exhibition will support student scholarships in the CWU Department of Art + Design.
The exhibition is open to artists over the age of 18 working in all 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and video formats. Only original works where the artist is the sole copyright holder will be accepted. Entry fee is $35 for up to three submissions. A maximum of five images can be submitted, or a combination of images and video/audio files for a maximum of five media. A brief artist bio is required. All work must be ready to display with clear installation instructions and cannot exceed 4 feet in any direction or weigh more than 70 pounds. Entries must be submitted online by August 31, 2019. Results will be sent by email on or before September 23, 2019. Accepted work must arrive by October 22, 2019.
The juror is Grace Kook-Anderson, The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum. Awards include First Place ($700), Second Place ($500), Third Place ($300), and three Sarah Spurgeon Gallery Honorable Mentions. The exhibition runs November 7—December 8, 2019. An opening reception and juror's talk will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Insurance coverage will be provided while works are on the gallery premises. Shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist.
